--the forest

Extending back from the church and encircling the burned-out building, there is a large forest. In the daylight, it is quite beautiful, even in winter, with a river winding its way over rocks and under logs, but as soon as the sun goes down the trees seem to grow eyes and watch anyone that happens by, reaching out with their limbs for a nighttime snack.
